…stop blogging about making money online. Or at least, don’t start a blog dedicated solely to the “making money blogging” niche.
Over the past three months I’ve been intimately involved in a plethora of projects that have been extremely successful in search engines. A few of them are not-for-profit, some are for profit. But all have done far better than expected within the time I’ve been working with them.
A lot of the success came because I’ve spent ample time getting these projects geared for search engines, but a good portion of the success has come because we’re creating unique, original, low key niche content.
Unique Low Key Niche Content
Face it… “make money blogging” is probably one of the biggest blog niches online right now. The guys/gals actually doing it pretty much dominate the niche, and making your way into that realm is going to take years. Years that we as bloggers looking to make a living online simply don’t have.
Another problem with the make money blogging niche is that to be taken seriously you have to back yourself up with stats, and most bloggers in this niche have mouths that write checks they can’t cash. If you’re already trying to make it in this niche, maybe you should rethink what you’re doing. If you’re not already in the niche, but considering getting in, think long and hard about what you’re about to do.
In my opinion, your time would be much better spent researching a niche that very few others are mesing around in. A few years back I ran a website and blog about baby sleep sacks. Yeah, it sounds boring doesn’t it? Well it was.
The thing is, the site made me more money than any other site I’ve ever ran. I was ranking very well for three major companies that make baby sleep sacks, and I had content rich information pages about everything related to baby sleep sacks. I was running affiliate programs for all three companies, and as a middle man I was knocking the sales out of the park.
THAT is making money online blogging. That is the key. Find a niche where no one else is paying attention and dominate.
If you combine a good niche with basic SEO principles and a commitment to providing high quality, original content, you’ll truly start to make money online.

Good point Eric. The make money niche is crowded, competitive, and many of the people coming to it do not have money. That is why they are searching for ways to make money. Finding a niche to get into that interests you, people are spending money in, and is less competitive is the way to go!
