You may or may not recall the post on my SEO journey that I posted back on June 4th. The basic idea was to start a project, using a niche that had few others working it, and pummel it with a heavy hitting blog and unique content. As mentioned in that post, I purchased a domain with my keyword/s in it, and I set up a Wordpress blog. The following is my first report.
Week One:
The first week I spent setting everything up. I got all of the DNS changed, installed Wordpress, popped in a few plugins, and began preparing for content. The first post to hit the site was published on June 6th.
-Plugins installed the first week include commetluv, Google Sitemaps, and akismet.
-Very few changes were made to the code. These changes need to be made, but have not yet happened. See week two for further explanation.
-Traffic was MUCH higher than anticipated, with a whopping 2,379 unique visits. This was thanks to a post being Stumbled one day, followed by a post making front page of another social media site the next day.
Largest Traffic Sources for Week One
Social Media - 1,634
Social Network Profiles - 452
Facebook - 90
Various - 203 (including search engines)
As you can see, we had instant success with social media.
Revenue:
Google Ads - $0.71
Affiliates - $0.00
Week Two
Week Two had even higher traffic results. This was again thanks to social media. I had intended on working with the all in one SEO plugin during week two, but because of the social media success I opted to hold off and continue riding the social networking wave. The idea there was comments were flowing, RSS subscribers were on the rise, and inbound links were happening organically. Why change anything, right?
Or at least, not right away if you have time…
-The only plugins I installed during week two were subscribe to comments and a feedburner stats plugin. During the first week I had two feed subscribers. I now have 29. Not big numbers by any means, but after only two weeks I can’t complain.
-Traffic came in at 3, 496 unique visits during the second week. Search engines have picked up all pages and now account for 11.9% of traffic. The site is already picking up speed for various keywords and keyphrases, and I suspect I’ll have made it to the bottom of page one for my targeted keywords within a few weeks.
That being said, social was again the major source of traffic, sending over 2,500 unique visits to the site.
Revenue:
Google Adsense - $1.37
Affiliates - $8.00
This week I plan on installing a few plugins as well as making some edits to the code, so stay tuned for the next report.

Not bad. Curious to see the site and what niche you’re working. Whats your plan to monetize it? Adsense, affiliate ads, or both?
The Facebook traffic, are you paying for Facebook ads or just from your profile?
Did you pick a blog/tech friendly niche or a general traffic niche? Like, is it about blogging, the internet, social media, MMO, SEO, etc or news, culture, music, celebs, movies or just informational on a random topic?
Is you goal to build primarily organic traffic or social traffic?

Hi Eric!
Impressive traffic from social media - but some gurus suggest that they don’t click, that SE traffic is the real goal. Any comment?
